Field Trip to NJPAC
We have planned an exciting educational field trip to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC). The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra is performing a concert entitled Meet the Orchestra that includes music of Paul Hindemith, Richard Strauss, Antonin Dvorak, Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Tylman Susato, and Leonard Berstein.
“Turandot” from Symphonic Metamorphosis by Paul Hindemith
Suite from La Danserye by Tylman Susato
Serenade for Winds, Op. 7 by Richard Strauss
Serenade for Strings, Op. 22 by Antonin Dvorak
“Scherzo” from Symphony No. 4 by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky
“Somewhere” & “Mambo” from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein
During General Music classes (and any other class that is appropriate) we will begin to prepare the students for this trip. The NJSO has wonderful materials that provide introductory excercises and activities to make the concert understandable and meaningful to all the student.
Be sure your child has returned their signed permission slip with the $7.00 fee for their ticket and transportation to Mr. Rudd or Ms. Washack by Wednesday October 15, 2003.
Full cafeteria service will be offered but lunch times will be slightly altered for this day.
For the concert, the NJSO members will be wearing different colored polo shirts to represent the family of instruments with which they play. They have encouraged students to wear colors appropriate to the family of the instrument they play at school or an instrument that they enjoy.
Brass - Purple, Percussion - Orange,
Strings - Red, and Woodwinds - Green
This is a special program that requires students to dress appropriately. Please work with your child to choose an outfit that reflects the importance of the event. We specifically ask that no sweat clothes" be worn.
